April 22, 2026 – Canvas LMS Transition Updates for Faculty #8

Greetings, Faculty Colleagues –

See below for the most recent monthly installment of Canvas updates for faculty. It’s an exciting time as work accelerates in advance of our Summer 2026 go-live.

  1. ITD and MTSU Online staff do not have capacity to convert courses for faculty, but they will provide support and help teach faculty how to convert their courses to Canvas. Please refer to the Canvas Resources for Faculty webpage and video recordings of previous Canvas trainings on the .
  2. Register for our Canvas Training Intensive Retreat May 12-15, offered both in-person and remotely on Zoom. Our Canvas Intensive will assist faculty in preparing their courses for summer 2026 and beyond. You may register for one or more days, or you may register for specific sessions on each day. To register for the May 2026 Canvas Intensive, .
  3. The batch of K16 custom course migrations requested by March 6 is now available in . K16 migrated courses are clearly indicated as “Migration” on the course card in your Canvas account.
    • Even if your course has been migrated by K16, it will not be “ready to go.” Faculty need to review their migrated course content, quizzes, assessments, etc., and choose a layout for their courses in Canvas. (e.g., One of our Canvas Early adopters spent 10 hours working on her K16 migrated fully online course for spring 2026.)
    • Still need your course(s) migrated from D2L to Canvas? We have some space for additional K16 course migrations, but the migration process takes 4-6 weeks. The last round of migration requests (a very limited number) is due by June 12th, and because of the late date, we cannot guarantee that these courses will be migrated before the Fall 2026 term begins. If you’d like to submit a request for the final course migration, complete the  for EACH course that needs to be migrated; you will need the course URL, Instructor name, M number, and Department for each course.
    • If you’d like to migrate your own course content from D2L to Canvas, refer to the guidelines in this pdfԻ.
  4. Summer and Fall 2026 course shells are visible in . These are just shells, without course content, but you can import and build content anytime.
  5. Students (including all GAs and GTAs) cannot access D2L after May 15, 2026, but faculty permissions are active through December 31, 2026.
  6. You may refer to the previous Canvas transition update emails here.

When looking for your migrated course, look for the Migration term listed on the course card in the Canvas Dashboard.
