The field of linguistics is very rewarding, but not as well known. The purpose of this competition is to expose students to the field and to allow them to practice some of the skills that linguists use. All middle or high school students who are interested in solving world puzzles, deciphering coded messages, or practicing linguistic analysis are invited to participate.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-item accordion-item expandable-heading expandable-heading-lightblock\"><h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headingdo-my-students-need-to-know-another-language-to-compete\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapsenewExpandabledo-my-students-need-to-know-another-language-to-compete\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsenewExpandabledo-my-students-need-to-know-another-language-to-compete\">Do my students need to know another language to compete?<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"collapsenewExpandabledo-my-students-need-to-know-another-language-to-compete\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse expandable-content expandable-content-lightblock\" aria-labelledby=\"headingdo-my-students-need-to-know-another-language-to-compete\" data-bs-parent=\"#newExpandable\"><div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p>Not at all! All of the information needed to solve the puzzles will be included in the problem.&nbsp;In solving these problems, students learn about the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills. You must bring a signed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/lo\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/132\/2024\/09\/FormLiabilityandImageRelease.pdf\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Liability and Image Release form<\/a>&nbsp;for every student competing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&nbsp;also&nbsp;encourage students to bring multi-colored markers and highlighters.
