Searches Underway to Fill Dean Vacancies

The searches for new deans to lead the Jennings A. JonesÌýCollege of Business and the College of Mass CommunicationÌýbegan in early fall with the announced retirements ofÌýDean Jim Burton and Dean Roy Moore.

The searches, now in full swing, are remarkable in twoÌýways. First, in order to cast the broadest net possible toÌýfind a dynamic, visionary, and collaborative dean for eachÌýcollege, industry and community leaders are chairing theÌýsearches. Paul W. Martin Jr., chief managing member ofÌýClarity Resources, is chairing the search for a new dean inÌýbusiness; Peter Fisher , vice president and general managerÌýof the Grand Ole Opry, is chairing the mass communicationÌýsearch.

Second, the University has hired a private executive searchÌýfirm, funded by private dollars. Parker Executive Search isÌýactively soliciting nominations from academic and industryÌýcircles. The positions are being advertised nationally andÌýinternationally. When candidates are selected, the searchÌýcommittees, comprised of faculty, students, staff, and communityÌýrepresentatives, will begin reviewing them. The goalÌýis to have new deans selected by the beginning of April andÌýfor them to assume their posts by July 1, 2013.
