On April 14, we strengthened our University\u2019s traditions of excellence in the College of Education by dedicating the Department of Educational Leadership in honor of the Womack family. I was honored to help celebrate their incalculable contributions to MTSU over many decades.<\/p>\n

While many know Dr. Bob best of all for his legendary teaching, he was just one of many Womack children to serve the people of Tennessee.<\/p>\n

His older siblings \u2013 Price, Paul, Helen, Ben and Sarah \u2013 were also MTSU graduates.<\/p>\n

When the department naming was discussed several years ago, it was very important to Dr. Bob that their accomplishments be recognized as part of the naming.<\/p>\n

The Womacks\u2019 contributions continued through Andy\u2019s leadership in the Senate for so many years that helped provide funding for several new facilities, including the Business and Aerospace Building; the James E. Walker Library; and the John Bragg College of Mass Communication building, while also shaping education policy for Tennessee.<\/p>\n

In addition, countless students have benefited from the teaching of Lynn Womack and MTSU professor Dr. Lara Womack Daniels and from the ongoing involvement and support of Ricky and Andy.<\/p>\n

Clearly, the Womacks\u2019 impact on education and on MTSU especially has been tremendous.\u00a0 And we are proud to tell you that their impact will continue in perpetuity.<\/p>\n

As a family, they have established an endowment to support the teaching and research activities of the faculty in the Womack Department of Educational Leadership.<\/p>\n

Faculty, just like Dr. Bob himself, who give so much of themselves to shape the next generation of educators and educational leaders.<\/p>\n

The story of Womack family has interwoven with MTSU\u2019s story in countless ways.<\/p>\n

The best part of all is that the story continues to be written each and every day in the Womack Department of Educational Leadership.<\/p>\n
