Under\u00a0the act, <strong>productivity rather than sheer enrollment drives\u00a0state funding distribution.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Based on this final phase, MTSU\u2019s 2013\u20132014 recurring state\u00a0funding will be reduced by $1,752,100. However, the Tennessee\u00a0Higher Education Commission (THEC) voted at its\u00a0November 2012 meeting to propose new state funding totaling\u00a0$35,500,000 for higher education institutions. MTSU\u2019s share of\u00a0the proposed new funding will be $3,470,600. Thus, MTSU\u2019s\u00a0state funding could actually increase by a net of $1,718,500.<\/p>\n<p>The commission voted to recommend $7,590,000 in Capital\u00a0Maintenance funds for MTSU projects, including the Murphy\u00a0Center roof\/ceiling replacement project; the Central Plant\u00a0cooling tower replacement project; the Absorption Chiller\/\u00a0Tower replacement project; the Jones Hall plumbing update\u00a0project; and various projects entailing electrical updates to\u00a0campus buildings.<\/p>\n<p>THEC\u2019s recommendations have been submitted to the Department\u00a0of Finance and Administration for consideration in the\u00a0proposed budget that Governor Bill Haslam will be submitting\u00a0to the state legislature in the coming weeks.
