We have conducted\u00a0a preliminary analysis of the details of the Governor\u2019s\u00a0Budget and\u00a0I wanted to outline how his proposed\u00a0budget could\u00a0affect our University operations, if\u00a0approved by\u00a0the General\u00a0Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the budget as they relate to MTSU\u2019s institutional needs and priorities are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Net operating appropriations for our University, which includes adjustments made through the funding formula, will increase by $2.4 million.<\/li>\n<li>TheGovernor\u2019s\u00a0Budget\u00a0included\u00a0partial\u00a0funding for a 3.0 percent salary pool for MTSU in\u00a0the\u00a0amount\u00a0of\u00a0$3.8 million.\u00a0As\u00a0in\u00a0years\u00a0past,\u00a0this is only partial funding\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0University\u00a0will\u00a0need\u00a0to\u00a0fund\u00a0$2.1 million\u00a0from\u00a0our current budget, which will be a challenge.\u00a0The University\u00a0will receive an additional $1.55 million to cover group health insurance premium increases for a partial year.<\/li>\n<li>The budget also included $66.4 million in capital improvement funding for all higher education.\u00a0The capital project submitted by the University was not included in the budget.\u00a0 The Governor proposed funding only one of the twelve (12) capital projects recommended by THEC.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As the General Assembly moves the Governor\u2019s Budget through various committees, I will keep the campus updated on any impact to the University.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sincerely,\u00a0<br \/>Sidney A.\u00a0McPhee<br \/>President<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Lee presented his 2024-25 budget to the 113th\u00a0Tennessee General\u00a0Assembly\u00a0on Monday, February 5, 2024.
