The M.A.T. in World Languages licensure track prepares future educators to teach languages in grades 6–12 through a combination of advanced language study and professional training. Designed for recent graduates and career changers with strong language backgrounds, the program provides a clear and structured pathway into the teaching profession.
World Languages and Cultures, World Languages and Cultures 6-12 Teacher Licensure Concentration, M.A.T.
The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in World Languages licensure track is designed for individuals seeking licensure as world language teachers. Ideal for recent graduates as well as those returning to higher education with strong language skills, the program combines 18 credit hours of advanced language coursework with focused preparation in pedagogy, curriculum design, and classroom practice. Students develop both high-level language proficiency and the instructional skills needed to teach effectively in today’s classrooms.
The program also offers flexibility within its structure, allowing students to explore a second language or pursue an applied pathway that complements their teaching goals, including digital media, curriculum development, and business. Coursework is designed to connect theory and practice, and graduates leave the program prepared for state licensure with a strong foundation in both language and pedagogy, as well as the adaptability to grow within the profession.
