Faculty

The portions of Self-Service Banner related to Faculty menu functions are now live as of January 5, 2026.

Users will notice changes in the Pipeline Faculty menu on several links with SSB9 changes, including:

  • Mid-Term Grades (Academic Progress Report)
  • Monitored Student Athletes (Academic Progress Report)
  • Final Grades
  • Class List Summary
  • Faculty Schedule (Detailed)
  • Teaching Assignments
  • Class List Options

The information below should help explain how to navigate each of these new links.

NOTE: It is important to save your work in many of these reports as they may time out with inactivity and require you to start over!

Mid-Term Grades (Academic Progress Report)

The link to submit Mid-Term Grades is under the Required Reporting/Grading section of the Faculty menu. Undergraduate courses are required to have mid-term grades reported each fall and spring term, and in some summer parts of term.

The new Mid-Term Grades report allows instructors to not only report the in-progress grade for a student, but to also report issues regarding each student, recommendations, and comments. This information will be visible to the student and their academic advisor. A difference in the old method of mid-term reporting is attendance reporting is no longer integrated into the grading component. Instructors can still update attendance reporting as needed throughout the semester using the link Attendance Reporting within the same section of the Faculty menu.

After clicking the link you will be brought to a screen listing courses that require feedback. If it is not time to start a report for a particular class, it will be greyed out and cannot be clicked. To begin a report, click on the Associated Term in the 2nd column, not the hyperlinks for the Course or CRN.

The Estimated Grade for each student can be chosen based on the grading mode for the class. The Faculty Feedback Status column will indicate if any students are Monitored students, but for Mid-Term grades all students must receive a report. To choose additional issues, recommendations, or comments, select the arrow on the far right of the page next to the student’s name. This will allow for more options.

Once grades and any optional issues, recommendation, or comments have been entered, click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page. You can select a new CRN at the top to move to a different class if you have others to submit. If for some reason the report does not submit, the page has timed out and you will have to refresh the page. Be careful to not stay idle too long, or submit the report to save your work if needed and finish later. You will be able to submit it without all students reported, so review your work to make sure all students (and additional pages of students for large classes) have grades submitted.

Monitored Student Athletes (Academic Progress Report)

The process to report on Monitored Student Athletes is the same as for Mid-Term Grades. From the list of courses you are able to see in the Monitored Students column if you have any students that need an update. The students will be noted as Monitored instead of Optional, and when prompted you only have to report on these students in your classes and not all students.

Final Grades

The look and feel for entering final grades will be different, but the general concepts will remain the same. Final grading will only be available at the end of the semester. Entering grades of “F” will still require a last date of attendance, and Incomplete grades will still require a default grade entry and completion date. To get started, select the Final Grades link in the Required Reporting/Grading box. It will take you to a new tab with all classes listed that the instructor has taught.

To find current classes that need to be graded, sort by clicking on either Grading Status or Term. Be aware these may require clicking a couple of times for the right directional sort. The Grading Status column will show if a class is completed, not started, or in progress. Click on the course to get started and scroll down to the bottom of the page to begin. Alternatively, you can access the Final Grade form by going to the Class List Summary page and selecting the option to enter a final grade there.

Note that for large classes you may have multiple pages to fill out. For each student select the final grade from the dropdown menu. If you aware a grade of F you will have to submit the student’s Last Date of Attendance. If you attempt to save without entering the LDA, a red box will surround the LDA box indicating it must be filled. The Reported Attend column will reflect the student’s attendance as reported earlier in the term for reference only. The Rolled column indicates if the grade has been saved into the student’s academic history, which occurs overnight after the grade is entered. If the grade is rolled, any changes to that particular grade must be submitted via a Change of Grade form.

When entering a grade of Incomplete, as soon as you enter the “I” grade you’ll be taken to a different screen that will require you to enter a default final grade and extension date. The default grade is what the student will earn if they do not complete their work. The extension date is autopopulated as the latest possible date that can be entered. Instructions can opt to change that to an earlier date if desired. If a default grade of “F” is entered you must also enter a Last Date of Attendance on the first page. When done with the Incomplete information, click on “Roster” to return to the grade entries.

Remember to save your work as the grade sheet can time out due to inactivity. It is best to have all information ready to enter for each class before beginning to avoid a time out. The class is graded once it is marked as “Complete” on the original screen. Errors will appear in the top right corner if there is a reason the sheet cannot be saved.

Class List Summary

The Class List Summary link is a way to look up classes by CRN, Subject, or Course Number to access class lists and waitlist information. Start by selecting a term, and all classes will populate for that term. You can then use the search function to find a class, with CRN allowing the fastest search. When attempting to select a class to see the classlist, select the Subject and Course Number in the first column, even though it will not appear to be a hyperlink. This is a known flaw in SSB9 with no resolution as of yet. Selecting the hyperlinks for Course Title and CRN will provide additional course information but will not open the class list.

The class list provides information on class enrollment, including anyone on the waitlist and their position on that list. Here instructors can email their entire class by selecting all students and then clicking on the mail icon. Clicking on the student’s name also provides details about the student’s program of study. When final grading is active, you can access your final grade roster from this page as well.

Faculty Schedule (Detailed)

The Faculty Schedule (Detailed) link is a quick way to access your Class List Summary if you are assigned as the instructor. Click the link and you’ll be prompted to choose the term, then choose the class you want to view. A detailed view of the course will then appear. Click on the link “Classlist” in the top block (in yellow above) and you’ll be taken to your Class List Summary as described in the previous section.

Teaching Assignments

The Teaching Assignments link will show faculty their current assigned courses if the classes have not been graded yet. It also provides an option to see teaching history. For fast access to class lists, this link can be used. However, please note that a current Ellucian defect shows any past zero credit courses in the Active Assignments. For some instructors that teach a number of zero credit classes (science labs, music ensembles, etc.), you may see a large number of past courses here that are not actually active. In that case you can use the Faculty Schedule (Detailed) for faster access to class lists.

The Class List link under Roster will take you to the previously mentioned Class List Summary. The Syllabus and Office Hours links are not required currently and purely optional to fill out. The Detail Schedule will provide a comprehensive look at the course enrollment and information.

Class List Options

Some of the class list options will look different than normal. These class lists provide the same information as they previously did but in a new format. As of 1/16/26 there are new lists available at these links that will only require you to know your class CRN. You can find your CRNs by clicking on Faculty Schedule (Detailed) and writing down your CRNs for the term. There is not a drop down option as before when accessing these lists to choose your class, you need the CRN..

The Class Email List with Preferred Name shows a list of all students that are active in the class, but will note if the student has dropped the class or withdrawn from the university. The list can be copied into an Excel sheet. Additionally, at the bottom of the screen there is a list of active student emails for easy copy-and-paste into an email message.

The Class Email List with Overrides shows a list of all students that are enrolled in the class and if they have a permit/override, and it shows students with an active permit/override who are not enrolled. This list is to help identify if any permits need to be removed or students contacted who need to add the class. College, program, and classification are included to help identify if permits are needed or not.

The CRN Enrollment/Location/Outstanding Permits link shows any student NOT enrolled for a class with an outstanding permit. This is to aid in finding students who need to register still or identify permits to remove. The Capacity column lists the course capacity of the assigned room to help avoid adding closed class overrides that may be the course over capacity.

There has been a high demand for the “Class Photo Gallery” link that was in SSB8 but not available in SSB9. Class photos are now in the Class List Summary and, while the photos are smaller, that is the way to access pictures of class members.
